Shauny & Keith, Midlands Wedding
Midlands Wedding, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa
A balmy summer’s day in December, set on the gorgeous family farm in the Midlands with the Midmar Dam perfectly positioned as the backdrop to Shauny and Keith’s special day – it was a wedding day that I will never forget!
You know that saying “it takes a village”? Well, this wedding was the true definition of that phrase. There were no fancy wedding planners or co-ordinators, though there is absolutely nothing wrong with having those services, there were the two families who stepped up and chipped in. From place settings, table decor and flower arrangements, to setting out chairs and hay bales for the ceremony, making the most delicious canapés, ensuring the photographers were fed and watered (thank you!) and giving the guests the most incredible experience of a tractor ride to the ceremony site! There was just the most tangible outpouring of love from every family member who played a part in making Shauny and Keith’s day just that much more special.
I have to admit, I am obsessed with farm weddings! The connection to nature, the simplicity of a barn reception venue and the connection of family involved in the preparation of the day. Although, an outdoor ceremony does have you praying just that much more that it won’t be rained out and, it was touch and go, but Shauny and Keith just managed to have their magical ceremony overlooking the midmar dam before the heavens opened. The rain was a welcome relief as it ushered in the cool air as the afternoon dipped into the evening hours and we headed into the made over barn for the beautiful wedding reception.
Shauny and Keith performed one of the most exquisite first dances that I have ever seen, it was so incredibly beautiful I was almost mesmerized! The night was full of speeches, toasts, big smiles, happy tears, tender glances, dancing (and dance offs!) and the most incredible joy and laughter that rang out into the night.
A love so palpable, it won’t be a wedding that I could easily forget!
